Senior Leadership Team
President and Chief Executive Officer
Todd Cook is the President and Chief Executive Officer of Northview Apartment REIT (Formerly Northern Property REIT) which owns approximately 27,000 multi-family units and 1.2 million square feet of commercial properties across Canada. In 2015, Mr. Cook led Northern Property REIT's strategic acquisition of True North Apartment REIT and an institutional portfolio of multi-family apartments in the creation of Northview Apartment REIT. Mr. Cook joined the Northern Property REIT in 2006 as Chief Financial Officer, holding various senior executive positions before being appointed President & Chief Executive Officer in 2014. Previously, he was Chief Financial Officer of Calgary based TGS North American REIT which was purchased by a subsidiary of The Great-West Life Assurance Company in June, 2006. He possesses a Bachelor of Administration from the University of Regina and received his Chartered Accountant designation in 1993.
Chief Operating Officer
Leslie Veiner has held senior management positions in the Canadian real estate industry and most recently served as the Chief Executive Officer of True North Apartment REIT, prior to which he was Chief Financial Officer of TransGlobe Apartment Real Estate Investment Trust (TGA REIT). Prior to joining TGA REIT, Mr. Veiner provided Seniors Housing Advisory services through his consulting company Hippo Capital Corporation. From 2003 to 2008, Mr. Veiner was employed by Chartwell Senior Housing Real Estate Investment Trust, holding the positions of Senior Vice President Real Estate from 2005 to 2008 and Chief Financial Officer from its inception in 2003 to 2005. From 2000 to 2003, Mr. Veiner was Chief Financial Officer of Alert Care Corporation, which sold its properties pursuant to the formation of Chartwell Senior Housing Real Estate Investment Trust and from 1995 to 2000 he held senior financial positions with a real estate company and a healthcare company. Mr. Veiner is qualified as a Chartered Accountant in Canada, and holds a Bachelor of Commerce and Graduate Diploma in Accounting from the University of Cape Town, South Africa.
Chief Financial Officer
Travis Beatty was appointed Chief Financial Officer of Northview Apartment REIT in 2016. Previously, Mr. Beatty was the Chief Financial Officer of West Valley Energy from 2012 to 2014. Prior to joining West Valley Energy, Mr. Beatty held various senior finance roles with OPTI Canada Inc. from 2002 to 2011, and was appointed Chief Financial Officer in 2009 until its acquisition by CNOOC Limited in 2011. Mr. Beatty is a qualified Chartered Professional Accountant, Chartered Financial Analyst, and holds a Bachelor of Commerce in Accounting and Finance from the University of Calgary. He also serves as a board member of HomeFront, a non-profit organization helping families from domestic violence.
Vice President, Business Development
Richard Anda was appointed Vice President, Business Development of the REIT in January 2011. Mr. Anda joined the REIT in 2003 as Asset Manager and was appointed as Vice President, Operations in 2004. Previously with Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation in various positions, he brings 15 years of real estate and property management experience to the REIT. Mr. Anda holds an Urban Land Economics Diploma and is a Certified Property Manager with the Real Estate Institute of Canada.
Vice President, Residential Operations
Lizaine Wheeler was appointed Vice President, Residential Operations of the REIT in October 2012. Previously, Ms. Wheeler was the Senior Vice President, Operations of Mainstreet Equity Corp in Calgary from 2010 to 2012, and at Boardwalk REIT from 1998 to 2010, progressing to VP Operations. Ms. Wheeler possesses a background in Human Resources and is currently working on her MBA.
Vice President, Property Development
Bo Rasmussen was appointed Senior Vice President, Investments of Northview Apartment REIT in 2019. Previously, Mr. Rasmussen was the Vice President, Property Development of the REIT from 2011 to 2018. He joined in May 2007 as the Manager of Construction and Development. Prior to joining the REIT, he was Vice President of Development for NewNorth Projects from 2004 to 2007, and was with Ninety North Construction and Development Ltd. in the capacities of Regional Manager of Nunavut Operations, and General Manager of Greenland Operations from 1999 to 2004. Mr. Rasmussen graduated from Southern Alberta Institute of Technology in Calgary with a Diploma of Civil Engineering Technology in 1992, and received a Masters of Business Administration (MBA) from the University of Calgary, Haskayne School of Business, in 2011.
Vice President, Legal and Corporate Secretary
Karl Bomhof was appointed Vice-President, Legal and Corporate Secretary of Northview Apartment REIT in 2019. Previously, Mr. Bomhof was President and CEO of FortisAlberta Inc. and held several senior executive roles with the company since 2010, including as General Counsel and Corporate Secretary and Vice President, Customer and Corporate Service. A lawyer for more than 20 years, Mr. Bomhof is a member of the Law Society of Alberta and the Law Society of British Columbia (non-practicing). He holds a Bachelor of Arts (Political Science) from the University of British Columbia and a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from Schulich School of Law at Dalhousie University.
Vice President, Human Resources
Debbie Toole was appointed Vice President, Human Resources of Northview Apartment REIT in 2019. Ms. Toole has extensive executive HR experience across several industries in Canada and the U.S. Prior to joining Northview Apartment REIT, Ms. Toole held the positions of VP Human Resources Services for the ATCO Group of Companies and Vice President Human Resources with Brookfield Residential Properties. Ms. Toole serves on the board of Enterprise4Good. She holds a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Alberta.
Regional Vice President, Central Canada
Adriana Keresztes is the Regional Vice President for Central Canada. Prior to joining the REIT, Ms. Keresztes held posts with Greenwin as Senior Vice-President, Residential Operations and with CAPREIT as Associate Vice-President, Operations. During her time with CAPREIT, she was awarded Property Manager of the Year at the 2008 FRPO MAC Awards. Ms. Keresztes further contributes and advocates for the property management industry through the Greater Toronto Apartment Association, where she recently completed her tenure as Chair of the Board of Directors. In addition, she is a member of the Board of Directors for the Federation of Rental Housing Providers of Ontario
Regional Vice President, Northern Canada
Linay Freda joined the REIT in 2009. Previously, Ms. Freda held various senior positions with the Qikiqtani Inuit Association (Nunavut Land Claims Organization) as Director of Operations and Land Claims Implementation Coordinator and previously various administration roles with the Nunavut Arctic College. In executive leadership roles for over 20 years, Ms. Freda holds a Diploma in Management from the University of St. Mary's and an Executive Master of Administration (EMBA) with a designation in Real Estate from the Sandermoen School of Business, University of Fredericton.
Regional Vice President, Atlantic Canada
Melvin Nash was appointed as the Regional Vice President for Atlantic Canada in 2015. Previously, Mr. Nash was the Regional Manager for Newfoundland and Labrador for the REIT from 2005 to 2015. Prior to joining the REIT, he was the co-owner/operator of the NFLD office of Cushman Wakefield Atlantic for six years, a commercial brokerage reale state firm. He also spent 10 years prior to that as the Commercial Property Manager and Broker for an Atlantic Canadian based third party property management firm. Mr. Nash was also a former Director and Ambassador with the St. John's Board of Trade and judge for the BOMA Excellence Awards. Mr. Nash also focuses much of his time volunteering for many local and national charities.
Scott Thon has served as President & CEO of AltaLink since 2002. For over 30 years he has held a variety of senior positions in the electricity industry, from operations to competitive market design and global power development. In 2013, Bow Valley College awarded Mr. Thon their Distinguished Citizen Award, honouring his commitment to the College. He was recognized by the Calgary Chamber of Commerce in 2011 for his business and community leadership with the Sherrold Moore Award. In 2005, the Government of Alberta presented Mr. Thon with the Alberta Centennial Medal in recognition of outstanding service to the people and province of Alberta. Mr. Thon is current chair of the Canadian Electricity Association Board of Directors, and sits on the boards of Alberta Blue Cross and the Calgary Bid Exploration Committee. Mr. Thon is a registered Professional Engineer, a graduate of the University of Western Ontario's Executive Program and holds an ICD.D designation from the Institute of Corporate Directors.
Todd Cook was appointed to the Board of Trustees at the annual meeting on May 13, 2014 Mr. Cook became President and Chief Executive Officer of Northview Apartment REIT on May 13, 2014. Mr. Cook joined Northern Property REIT in November 2006 as Vice President, Finance, and became Chief Financial Officer on May 1, 2007. He moved into the position of Executive Vice President of Northern Property REIT in 2011 before being appointed President & Chief Operating Officer in January 2013. Previously, he was Chief Financial Officer of Calgary based TGS North American REIT which was purchased by a subsidiary of The Great-West Life Assurance Company in June, 2006. He possesses a Bachelor of Administration from the University of Regina and received his Chartered Accountant designation in 1993.
Daniel Drimmer is the founder, President and Chief Executive Officer of Starlight Group Property Holdings Inc., a real estate asset management company focused on the acquisition, ownership and management of commercial and residential properties across Canada and the US. Mr. Drimmer is also President and Chief Executive Officer of True North Commercial REIT. Mr. Drimmer obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Western Ontario and a Master's degree in Contemporary Policy Making from European University in Geneva, Switzerland.
Kevin Grayston is self-employed as Principal of K. Grayston Consulting Ltd. Mr. Grayston was formerly the Executive Vice President, Real Estate, of BCIMC Hospitality Group from September 2007 until January 2009; and Executive Vice President & Chief Financial Officer of Canadian Hotel Income Properties Real Estate Investment Trust from 1997 until 2007. He is a Chartered Accountant and possesses a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of British Columbia.
Dennis J. Hoffman
Dennis J. Hoffman retired as office managing partner and member of the Canadian Leadership Group from PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP in July of 2005 after more than 35 years in public practice. Mr. Hoffman is an Alberta Institute lecturer, member of the Institute of Corporate Directors (ICD), and a task force member of the Petroleum Accountants Society. Mr. Hoffman graduated from the University of Saskatchewan with a BComm and a BSc, and is a member of the Canadian and Alberta Institutes of Chartered Accountants.
Christine McGinley was former senior vice president, operations, of Canwest Broadcasting until her retirement in 2010. She is currently a board member of DIRTT Environmental Solutions, Canada Health Infoway and Alberta Blue Cross, and was on the Board of TBaytel from 2010 to 2016. Ms. McGinley holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Alberta, and a Chartered Accountant designation from the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Alberta, and is a member of the Institute of Corporate Directors (ICD).
Terrance McKibbon has over 30 years' experience in the construction industry, and serves as President and Chief Executive Officer of Bird Construction. Prior to this, he spent over 20 years with Aecon Group Inc. where he was appointed Chief Executive Officer in June 2014, and President in June 2013, Mr. McKibbon has held successive positions within Aecon, including Chief Operating Officer (2011) and Executive Vice President and CEO of Aecon's Infrastructure division (2005). He is a member of the Canadian Council of Chief Executives, and former Trustee of International Union of Operating Engineers, Local 793, Training Trust Fund and of Labourers' International Union of North America (Washington D.C.), and former President of both the Pipeline Contractors Association of Canada and the Ontario Hot Mix Producers Association. He has also served as a Board member of the Ontario Road Builders Association and the Utility Contractors Association of Ontario. Mr. McKibbon is a certified Gold Seal Project Manager through the Canadian Construction Association and holds an ICD.D designation from the Institute of Corporate Directors.
Valery Zamuner is an independent advisor on Mergers, Acquisitions & Strategic Initiatives. Ms. Zamuner has more than 20 years of experience in international and domestic mergers and acquisitions for public and private companies. Before acting as an independent advisor, she held the positions of Senior Vice-President of Mergers, Acquisitions & Strategic Initiatives for Stingray Inc. and the position of Executive Vice President, Mergers & Acquisitions and Chief Legal Officer and Corporate Secretary of WSP Global Inc. Ms. Zamuner also served as the Vice President, Legal Affairs for Consolidated Thompson Iron Mines from 2009 to 2011. Ms. Zamuner holds a Bachelor of Law degree from Laval University and an MBA from the John Molson School of Business (Concordia University). She is a member of the Quebec Bar.
